Livy’s Angels began with a question I couldn’t quite shake:
Are they angels now?
I asked it quietly at first. And then I kept asking it.
And in the stillness that followed, I imagined the reply:
“We are so much more than angels, but you don’t have a name for it yet on Earth.”
That line settled into me and never really left. It became the heartbeat behind this entire collection — the reason I draw, the reason I write, the reason I keep making these small, hopeful things.
I don’t believe our animals become smaller or simpler when they leave us. I don’t believe they fade into something faint and distant. I believe they expand. I believe they become something brighter and bigger and more alive than we even have language for yet.
When I create an ornament, a card, a plaque, or a keepsake with these words, I’m not trying to explain the mystery. I’m honoring it. I’m honoring the idea that love doesn’t collapse at the end of a life — it unfolds into something we’re still learning how to name.
Maybe one day we’ll have the right word for what they become.
Until then, I’ll keep calling it beautiful. And for now, that feels like enough.
